How to wear a suit in 3 ways: Capsule wardrobe styling

Hi guys!

It’s been a while shall we say since I last posted on here! 🙈 (bad blogger) I think I lost my mojo, and then I decided to take the summer off and now here we are! Oh dear! But I’m still active daily over on Instagram! @scientist_in_the_city

Anyway I’m back today with a new blog post all about how to get the most out of your wardrobe this autumn/winter and how to create a (sort of) capsule wardrobe. I say sort of because this is something I have always aspired to do, in order to spend less and maximise on space but because I like the ‘spend less buy more’ life mantra I have never successfully achieved this 🙈

To be honest this one sort of happened by accident! I was heading to an event and nipped into New Look in Castlecourt, Belfast on my way to meet beautyfashionchitchat! Literally a 5 min stop and I had been in, picked up a jacket, tried it on, purchased and away I went again! I mean that’s like some sort of medal worthy effort! I didn’t even mean to buy anything, I was just killing time! Story of my life!

So I wore my new check jacket/blazer with a pair of black skinny jeans and a plain black vest top and black pumps to the next #nibloggerbrunch and loved it! It’s so comfy, it’s like a jersey material so there is a bit of stretch but it’s still quite structured in a way, so it looks smart.

The next time I called into new look a week or two later…just browsing again and I came across the matching trousers to the jacket! I hadn’t seen these on my first visit so I thought, ‘hmm…maybe I should try these on and see!’ They were the same material so I knew they would be comfy and I can confirm that they really, really are! They sat lovely on, but one piece of advice with this specific style is to size down! Another plus 😂

I wore the trousers with a leopard print tee to the style edit event. Also from new look this is a basic tee but so on trend and over the top I wore my trusty black ‘leather’ jacket from George at Asda which is older than I care to remember but it’s my staple!

Then in a mad panic the night before the bejewelled event in Strabane I decided to put the jacket and trousers together. Big deal says you but personally I have only really ever worn a matching suit to an interview! So I was a little out of my comfort zone! But as soon as I put it together it just looked right! I paired it with some aubergine brogues I have had for a while (but never worn) and a plain black tee and the preppy look was complete! I think that even know each outfit variation contains the same print, when you style it in a different way each time then it gives it a new lease of life!

For anyone interested, the jacket is £24.99, trousers £19.99 and both in store and online now! Go, go, go!

I think I’m going to try and do this more with my wardrobe. I need to stop buying needless clothes in the sales and start to think a bit more about what I will actually wear and perhaps spending a bit more on key pieces. With saving for our wedding I will definitely be on a spending ban for the foreseeable future but maybe this is a way to create countless outfits with a limited budget…we shall see!

I’m going to raid my wardrobe and pull out all the basic pieces, like T-shirt’s and vest tops and then visualise outfits and pair things together to see what works. I think it will allow me to see what I actually have rather than panic buying the next time I have to go somewhere thinking that I have nothing to wear! Come on, we have all done it! I am hoping it saves me time too, as I will know what outfits go together. A win, win situation really 🤞🏻

Thanks for reading guys, p.s. this isn’t a sponsored post I promise! Do you have any tips on how to save money and space with a capsule wardrobe? I would love to hear!

Thanks for reading,

Emz xx
